This classic cottage is a 100 year old "Penniman Home." It is a Sears Roebuck kit home built by the Dupont Company during World War I to house workers at the munitions factory at Penniman, near Yorktown, VA. After the war ended, Penniman was abandoned and some of its houses were moved to other locations. This is one of the homes which were loaded onto barges, floated down the river, and set on new foundations in the Riverview section of Norfolk, circa 1919.
